My work as Program Manager II on Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR
Directly managed and orchestrated inter-team engineering operations and customer supportability efforts for the Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR application.
Oversaw iterative feedback loop with external teams pointed to ensuring an error-free app release experience that benefitted hundreds of different apps, tools, and experiences supporting Windows Mixed Reality (I.e., ‘Half-Life: Alyx’, ‘Beat Saber’, ‘PAYDAY 2‘, ‘Star Wars: Squadrons‘, ‘Fallout 4 VR‘, ‘The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners‘, ‘VRChat‘, ‘No Man’s Sky‘, ‘The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR‘ ‘Boneworks‘, ‘Bonelab‘, ‘Hitman III‘, ‘Medal of Honor: Above & Beyond‘, ‘Tetris Effect: Connected‘, ‘Pavlov VR‘, and many, many more).
Designed framework for directly engaging 1st-party and 3rd-party app development teams to collaborate on enabling or improving support for Windows Mixed Reality-based headsets, extending from small indie teams up through AAA industry leaders.
Personally designed and implemented hundreds of compatible controller input profiles for various Steam titles to both directly and indirectly enable Windows Mixed Reality compatibility.
Challenges as Program Manager II on Windows Mixed Reality for SteamVR
As the feedback from customers continued to build and point to a genuine desire to use content purchased via the Steam storefront, the Windows Mixed Reality team decided to build a bridge that enabled compatibility between the Windows Mixed Reality platform and Steam. Over the years supporting this bridge the primary challenge came in meeting the evolving needs and purpose the bridge served relative to the Windows Mixed Reality platform’s impact in-market. In later years, as developers pivoted more of their attention to Meta’s Quest 2 platform, the variety of supportability options that the Steam bridge afforded the Windows Mixed Reality engineering team became invaluable, as it easily enabled us to take on the bulk of needed engineering changes that were necessary to enable compatibility between Windows Mixed Reality headsets and newly released Steam content.
